1.
It is the duty of freedom loving people to oppose and resist
this evil with all the strength God has given us.
If we do not, we stand to lose all we and our forefathers have
gained through the centuries.
2. The
aim of the communist party has not been abandoned. It has been renewed with more intense vigor than at any time
in history. These Satanic
forces are working to destroy all Christian principles.
We must embark upon a campaign to war against these insidious
efforts. Communism takes out
of life everything that is sweet, noble, and edifying.
This is because it is an Enemy to all righteousness.
It despises and hates God and his Son Jesus Christ.
3. We
should, in the tradition of the Founding Fathers, learn the principles of
the Constitution and abide by its precepts.
We encourage Latter-day Saints throughout the nation to familiarize
themselves with the Constitution. They
should focus attention on it by reading it and studying it.
They should recommit themselves to its principles and be prepared
to defend it and the freedom it provides.
Citizens of this nation are free to participate in efforts designed
to warn of the threat of any force or power, theory or principle, that
would deprive them of their freedom or the individual liberties vouchsafed
by the Constitution. Because some Americans have not kept faith with our
Founding Fathers, the Constitution faces severe challenges. Those who do not prize individual freedom are trying to erode
its great principles. We, as
Latter-day Saints must be vigilant in doing our part to preserve the
Constitution and safeguard the way of life it makes possible.
Learn more about this divinely inspired charter of our liberty,
speak in its defense, and preserve and protect it against evil or
destruction. We encourage
your participation and involvement in this worthy endeavor
4. We
again warn our people in America of the constantly increasing threat
against our inspired Constitution and our free institutions set up under
it...the same political tenets and philosophies that have brought war and
terror in other parts of the world are at work amongst us in America.
The proponents thereof are seeking to undermine our own form of
government and to set up instead of one of the forms of dictatorship now
flourishing in other lands. These
revolutionists are using a technique that is as old as the human race, –
a fervid but false solicitude for the unfortunate over whom they thus gain
mastery, and then enslave them.
5. We
encourage all members, as citizens of the nation, to be actively involved
in the political process, and to support those measures which will
strengthen the community, state, and nation - morally, economically, and
culturally.
7. The
safety of our divinely inspired constitutional government and the welfare
of our Church imperatively demand that communism shall have no place in
America.
First
Presidency Official Statement Aug 1936 Improvement Era 8. We again warn our people in America of the constantly increasing threat against our inspired Constitution and our free institutions set up under it. The same political tenants and philosophies that have brought war and terror in other parts of the world are at work amongst us in America. The proponents thereof are seeking to undermine our own form of government and to set up instead one of the forms of dictatorship now flourishing in other lands. These revolutionists are using a technique that is as old as the human race, - a fervid but false solicitude for the unfortunate over whom they thus gain mastery, and then enslave them. First Presidency Message April 6, 1942 9.
We urge members of the church and all Americans
President Hugh B. Brown 1..
The treat of communism is sinister, and its dangers are imminent. Hundreds of millions of our fellow beings are being
relentlessly imbued with the satanic ideology that religion is nothing but
a tranquilizing opiate. They
seek to deprive men of physical, mental, and spiritual freedom while
endowing the state with monstrous supremadc7.
This relentless indoctrination is but a continuation of the war
that began when Satan’s plan of force was rejected by the Father.
We live in the most dangerous period of history.
The church is the main bulwark against Communism ((CN:
Socialism)). The
entire concept and philosophy of Communism ((CN:
Socialism)) is diametrically opposed to everything for which the
Church stands. It destroys
man’s God-given free agency. No member of this Church can be true to his faith, nor can
any American be loyal to his trust, while lending aid, encouragement, or
sympathy to any of these false philosophies; for if he does, they will
prove snares to his feet.
